Process OTTO market fulfillment without media breaks

OTTO Market displays orders on a position-by-position basis. A robust integration must therefore not only import orders, but also seamlessly link position items, shipments, tracking, returns, and receipts.

01 ORD

Only edit items that are actually shippable.

Items with the status PROCESSABLE are selectively included in the shipping process. Items with the status ANNOUNCED, which can still be cancelled, remain unaffected.

02 SHP

Treat shipment as a mandatory process step

The handover to the carrier is reported via the Shipments interface. Only then do the Position Items receive the status SENT.

03 TRK

Track and monitor returns separately

Outbound and return shipments have their own status models. The integration keeps both processes traceable and prevents incorrect allocations.

Consistently map OTTO's process logic

Why a simple order import is not enough for OTTO Market

If order status, position items, carrier notification and returns are processed in separate systems, this quickly leads to delayed shipping confirmations, incomplete multiparcel shipments and missing tracking information.

Paket International connects OTTO Market with a central shipping platform and supplements the process with automated features as needed. API and customs workflows .

1
Do not send out any announced positions prematurely. The address is not yet visible in this state and the position can still be cancelled.
2
No label creation without shipment notification The label alone does not set the position to SENT. The handover to the carrier must be reported via the API.
3
No incomplete multiparcel cases Multi-part shipments are processed as a single shipment case with all packages and tracking numbers.
4
No return decision without considering the condition Acceptance, rejection, reason for return and condition of goods are taken into account in a structured way in the returns process.
Integration functions

What the OTTO Market shipping interface automates

The range of functions is tailored to your OTTO account, warehouse, carrier, shipping profiles, returns process and existing ERP or WMS landscape.

Retrieve orders and position items

Orders are processed with their position-related fulfillment status and filtered according to readiness for shipment.

Select carrier and shipping service

Package details, destination address, transit time and costs are taken into account when selecting the appropriate shipping service.

Generate shipping labels and accompanying documents

Labels and available documentation are created from recipient, package, and item data.

Shipments and Multiparcel report

Single and multi-package shipments are correctly handed over to OTTO Market with carrier, tracking numbers and position items.

Monitor return shipments

Announced returns and carrier-based tracking statuses are regularly retrieved and assigned to the correct process.

Processing returns and receipts

Returns can be accepted or rejected. Receipts generated by OTTO can be retrieved regularly for accounting and verification purposes.

Customs advantages of Paket International

Automating customs processes where OTTO's flow of goods becomes international

Standard shipping to OTTO customers in Germany is generally not considered an export transaction. However, the process chain becomes relevant for customs in the case of international pre-carriages, non-EU warehouses, returns, replacement deliveries, and cross-border goods movements.

DDP

Calculate taxes and landed costs early.

In international procurement or supply chains, customs duties, import sales tax and other fees can be factored into the cost analysis in advance.

DOC

Generate export documents from product data

Product description, value, origin and customs tariff number are used in a structured manner for Commercial Invoice, Proforma, ABD and other available export documents.

DNR

Digitally integrate MRN and export processes

For exports subject to customs duties, Paket International can support the export declaration and traceably assign documents to the shipping case.

HS

Customs tariff numbers consistently adopted

Recurring items can be processed using standardized customs information. This reduces queries and conflicting documents.

RET

Separate returned goods and replacement deliveries cleanly.

Cross-border returns, repairs and replacements require different customs treatment than a regular new sale.

API

Connect customs data with ERP and WMS

Product, origin and value data can be transferred via interfaces between the OTTO process, merchandise management and shipping platform.

Clear distinction: The customs functions do not replace OTTO Market specifications and are not required for every domestic German customer shipment. They extend the overall process where your procurement, warehousing, returns, or delivery crosses an EU external border.
From PROCESSABLE to SENT

This is how the OTTO Market connection works

The process follows the OTTO market fulfillment logic and supplements it with carrier selection, label creation and optional customs processes.

01

Authorize OTTO access

API roles, technical users, and required scopes are securely configured for integration.

02

Retrieve PROCESSABLE positions

Shippable items and recipient data are transferred to processing.

03

Check shipping service and customs requirements

Carrier, package data, and shipping route are evaluated. International pre- or export shipments receive additional customs data.

04

generate labels and documents

Shipping labels and required accompanying and export documents will be created.

05

Report shipment to OTTO

Carrier, tracking number and shipped items are reported and receive the status SENT.

Orders V4 and Shipments V1

Technical integration along the official OTTO Market APIs

OTTO Market provides separate REST interfaces for Orders, Shipments, Return Shipments, Returns, Receipts, Availability and Shipping Profiles.

Orders V4 delivers orders and position items with fulfillment status. The Shipments interface reports the handover to the carrier and sets shipped items to SENT. A separate multiparcel endpoint is available for multi-part shipments.

Important status logic: ANNOUNCED means not yet ready for shipment. PROCESSABLE is the state for fulfillment. SENT is only set after successful shipment notification. Returns are processed via separate Return, Shipment, and Returns interfaces.
Suitable dealer structures

Who is the OTTO Market shipping interface suitable for?

The integration is particularly relevant for retailers with larger shipping volumes, multiparcel cases, international supply chains, or ERP and WMS-managed fulfillment.

OTTO Market high-volume mail order

For retailers who process many item positions daily and need to reliably automate shipping confirmations.

Furniture and bulky goods retailers

For product ranges where an item is shipped in multiple packages with their own tracking numbers.

Internationally sourcing dealers

For companies with non-EU supply chains, cross-border warehouse movements or customs-liable returns.

ERP and WMS-managed companies

For retailers who want to connect OTTO Market, warehouse, shipping, returns and customs master data in a seamless process.

FAQ

Questions about the OTTO Market shipping interface

The final range of functions depends on the OTTO account, API rights, carrier process, warehouse structure and the actually relevant customs relations.

Which OTTO orders are allowed to be shipped?

For shipping purposes, only items with the status PROCESSABLE are relevant. Items with the status ANNOUNCED are not yet ready for shipping and can still be canceled.

How do I report a shipment to OTTO Market?

The handover to the carrier is reported via the Shipments API, including the carrier, tracking number, and the contained item(s). Afterwards, the item(s) receive the status SENT.

Does OTTO Market support multi-package shipments?

Yes. For items that are shipped in multiple packages, OTTO Market provides a dedicated multiparcel shipment endpoint.

Can tracking status be retrieved automatically?

Previously reported shipments can be accessed via shipment ID or carrier and tracking number. If OTTO supports the carrier, further tracking statuses may be included.

How are returns processed technically?

Return Shipments provide information about the announced and transported return shipment. The actual acceptance or rejection of the return is handled separately via the Returns API.

Can Paket International create OTTO shipping labels?

Yes. Paket International generates the shipping label from the imported recipient, package and order data and then reports the shipment back via the OTTO interface.

When are customs functions relevant for OTTO Market?

This is usually not the case for purely domestic German customer shipments. They become relevant for non-EU procurement, cross-border warehouse movements, dutiable returned goods, replacement deliveries, or upstream export processes.

What customs advantages does Paket International offer?

Product and customs data can be imported in a structured format, duties can be calculated, and commercial invoices, pro forma invoices, export accompanying documents, and other available documents can be generated.

Can OTTO shipping profiles be technically managed?

OTTO Market provides a Shipping Profiles API for managing delivery times, processing times, cut-off times, and working days. The specific integration will be reviewed on a project-specific basis.

Can the OTTO connection be combined with ERP or WMS?

Yes. Orders, position items, packages, carriers, tracking, return status and customs data can be connected to ERP, WMS or middleware, depending on the system landscape.

Official technical documentation: Orders V4, Shipments and Multiparcel, Return Shipments, Returns, Shipping Profiles and ReceiptsOTTO and its associated trademarks belong to their respective owners. Paket International is an independent provider and is not affiliated with OTTO.
