In Jordan, customs clearance often begins even before the goods arrive.

Jordan Customs uses electronic customs declarations via ASYCUDAWorld.

Therefore, the commercial invoice, origin information and transport data should be fully available before shipment.

This reduces queries and makes it easier for the importer or their customs agent to prepare for the import.

Include 16% general sales tax.
The standard Jordanian VAT rate is 16 percent. It generally also applies to taxable imports of goods.

EU preference can reduce tariffs
The EU and Jordan have a free trade area. Bilateral trade in industrial products is largely liberalized, provided the rules of origin are met.

Check product standards beforehand
Certain electrical appliances, food products, chemical products, textiles or safety products may be subject to mandatory Jordanian standards and additional controls.

Important information about customs and import duties

DAP or DDP to Jordan: Determine the importer early on.

For business shipments, it should be clear who is organizing the import into Jordan before shipping.

For DAP The seller will arrange transport to the agreed destination.

The recipient generally bears the following costs:

  • Import clearance
  • Import duty
  • General Sales Tax
  • Special Sales Tax (if applicable)
  • local handling fees

For DDP In contrast, the seller assumes the agreed import costs and further obligations.

Before calculating DDP, the following points should be clarified in particular:

  • who acts as an importer
  • whether a valid importer registration exists
  • Which customs duty rate applies?
  • whether EU preference can be used
  • Which tax applies?
  • whether product approvals are required

Jordan Customs requires, among other things, complete importer and tax information for regular commercial imports.

These points should therefore not be clarified only after the goods have arrived in Amman.

What is the import duty in Jordan?

Jordan does not have a flat customs duty on all goods.

The current Integrated Customs Tariff distinguishes different rates depending on the customs tariff number.

Examples in the Jordanian tariff show, among other things:

  • 0%
  • 5%
  • 10%
  • 15%
  • 25% for certain sensitive goods

Other product-specific regulations are possible.

Therefore, customs should always be checked using the specific HS code.

Additionally, the Jordanian fare system shows:

  • current trade agreements
  • additional taxes
  • Import requirements
  • product-specific approvals

For goods with preferential EU origin, the regular import duty may be reduced or waived due to the EU-Jordan agreement.

What is the value-added tax (VAT) rate in Jordan?

Jordan uses the term:

General Sales Tax, GST.

The regular rate is:

16%

The tax generally applies to both local sales and the import of goods and services.

In addition, there are:

  • tax-exempt goods
  • Zero sentences
  • reduced rates of, for example, 2, 4, 5 or 10 percent
  • Special Sales Tax on certain products

For a normal commercial delivery of goods, the standard rate of 16 percent should therefore be used initially, unless a specific exception applies.

General sales tax: regular 16%

ASYCUDAWorld and National Single Window: Jordan clears customs digitally

Jordan uses the following for its customs clearance:

ASYCUDAWorld.

The importer or their customs agent can prepare the customs declaration electronically.

Typical documents include:

  • Commercial invoice
  • Transport document
  • Proof of origin
  • Certificate of Origin (if applicable)
  • Packing List
  • Importer data
  • If necessary, permits from other authorities

The documents are attached electronically to the customs declaration.

Electronic manifests and other transport information are also processed via the digital customs infrastructure.

For companies with regular exports, this is another reason to keep customs data in a structured manner.

Sending a package to Jordan: What companies should consider in 2026

Amman is the economic and logistical center of Jordan.

The greater metropolitan area of the capital is therefore particularly relevant for parcel, express and air freight shipments.

For larger quantities of goods, however, Aqaba plays an important role.

The port city on the Red Sea is Jordan's main access to the sea and connects the country with international freight traffic.

What documents do I need for Jordan?

For a standard business delivery, the following should be present in particular:

  • Commercial invoice
  • Packing List
  • Air Waybill or Bill of Lading
  • Customs tariff number
  • cart value
  • Country of origin
  • possibly EUR.1
  • Import license (if applicable)
  • Product release (if applicable)

Jordan Customs generally requires an original commercial invoice or equivalent electronic documents for regular commercial imports.

Information about the origin of the product also plays an important role.

The goods should therefore be correctly documented before collection.

Is there a free trade agreement between Jordan and the EU?

Yes.

The EU and Jordan have created a free trade area under the Association Agreement.

The agreement entered into force on:

1 May 2002

in force.

Trade in industrial products is now fully liberalized.

However, product-specific rules continue to apply to agricultural and processed agricultural products.

This could be very interesting for German industrial products.

However, this is always conditional on the goods actually meeting the applicable EU rules of origin.

What rules of origin will apply in 2026?

Jordan is part of the Pan-Euro-Med region.

Since 1 January 2026 The revised Regional Convention on Pan-Euro-Med preferential rules of origin will be applied there.

For Jordan, German customs specifically mentions the following for 2026:

  • EUR.1 movement certificate
  • Declaration of origin according to the prescribed wording

The declaration of origin can generally be issued up to a value of:

6.000 euros in originating products

can be used without special authorization.

Authorised exporters may also issue the declaration of origin without this value limit, provided the relevant conditions are met.

REX is not intended for this regulation.

The country of shipment is not automatically the country of origin.

A common mistake is to equate shipping with preferential origin.

For example:

A Chinese electrical appliance is stored in Germany and then sold to Amman.

The mere fact that it is stored and shipped from Germany does not make it EU-origin goods.

Therefore, customs preference should only be used if the origin can actually be proven.

How long does it take for a package to arrive in Jordan?

DHL Parcel currently states:

8 to 12 working days

as a standard orientation.

For express shipments, the current DHL transit time table for key destination areas indicates approximately:

2 business days

.

These times are not guaranteed.

DHL currently explicitly points out that transport to Jordan is possible again after a temporary disruption.

However, due to the situation in the Middle East, further delays may occur.

The actual delivery time should therefore be checked immediately before shipping.

Use English product descriptions

DHL specifies the following for the customs declaration to Jordan:

English

as a permissible language.

The product description should be as specific as possible.

Not:

"Parts"

but for example:

“Stainless steel housing for industrial centrifugal water pump”

This makes the product, material, and intended use clearly identifiable.

Write the address for Jordan correctly

DHL requires Latin letters and Arabic numerals.

An address can be structured like this, for example:

Example Trading Co.
Al Mohazab Al Halabi Street 27
AMMAN 11937
JORDAN

The recipient's phone number and email address should also be provided.

This makes it easier to ask questions during customs clearance and delivery.

Jordanian standards and product controls are checked

Binding technical regulations apply to various product groups.

The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization, or JSMO for short, oversees standards for, among other things:

  • Electrical devices
  • Food products
  • chemical products and cleaning agents
  • Textiles
  • Personal protective equipment
  • vehicle technology

For regulated products, additional tests or conformity assessments may be necessary.

JSMO processed tens of thousands of customs declarations in the first half of 2026 alone.

Product requirements should therefore be checked before shipping and not only when the goods are already at Jordanian customs.

Shipping costs

These errors are delaying shipments to Jordan

Many customs problems arise from incomplete or contradictory documents.

Typical causes include:

  • general product description
  • incorrect HS code
  • Origin of goods not correctly stated
  • EU preference used without valid proof
  • Importer not sufficiently registered
  • Product standard not tested
  • The necessary import permit is missing.
  • The invoice and shipping details do not match.

Especially with technical goods, it should therefore be checked before shipping whether the goods are subject to a Jordanian standard or a special import permit.

Clean product data also reduces the risk of customs inquiries.

What goods are shipped from Europe to Jordan?

Jordan has only a limited domestic industrial raw material base and therefore imports many technical and commercial products.

The European Union supplies Jordan with machinery, transport equipment, chemical products, food and raw materials in particular.

The following may be of particular interest to German companies:

  • Machines and production facilities
  • Machine spare parts
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Pumps and water technology
  • Medical Technology
  • Measurement and testing technology
  • car parts
  • Solar and energy technology
  • Laboratory equipment
  • industrielle Bedarf

Especially for technically complex goods, the customs tariff number should be determined before booking.

You can find a practical introduction at Determine the correct customs tariff number for import and export.

Shipping information: Jordan

Standard, express or freight to Jordan?

For normal business goods without any particular urgency, a standard package may be suitable.

DHL Parcel currently states:

8 to 12 working days.

For spare parts or time-critical goods, express delivery can be significantly faster.

The published DHL Express transit time for key destinations is approximately:

2 working days.

However, due to the current situation in the Middle East, delivery times may vary.

For heavy machinery, multiple packages or pallets, air, land and sea freight solutions are also possible.

Amman for air freight, Aqaba for larger quantities of goods

The choice of transport route depends heavily on the size and urgency of the shipment.

The greater Amman area is the most important entry point for parcel and express shipments.

Queen Alia International Airport connects Jordan to international air freight networks.

For containers and larger freight volumes, however, the following applies:

Aqaba

a central role.

The port on the Red Sea is Jordan's only direct access to the sea.

From there, goods are transported by road towards Amman and other regions.

Jordan also has road connections to neighboring markets in the region.

Companies that supply multiple countries in the Middle East, for example, can find further information on... Shipping to Saudi Arabia, to the Shipping to Bahrain or to do Parcel shipping to Qatar.

What are the import costs in Jordan?

Depending on the goods, several cost components may arise.

These include, for example:

  • product-specific import duty
  • regular 16% general sales tax
  • Special Sales Tax (if applicable)
  • Customs and service charges
  • possibly testing or approval costs
  • Customs agent fees

Goods with preferential EU origin may be eligible for preferential treatment regarding the actual import duty.

However, this does not automatically eliminate the General Sales Tax.

For a reliable calculation, customs duties and taxes should therefore be checked separately.

How much does a package to Jordan cost?

The shipping price depends on the specific shipment.

Important factors are:

  • Weight
  • Dimensions
  • Volumetric weight
  • destination
  • Shipping speed
  • Type of goods
  • Carrier

For large but lightweight boxes, the volumetric weight can significantly influence the calculated transport price.

We explain how this value is created below. Understanding and correctly calculating volumetric weight.

Current delays may also affect available services and prices.

Online trade to Jordan: Special rule for private packages up to 200 JOD

Jordan has a special simplified regulation for private e-commerce orders.

For foreign online purchases for personal use with a value of no more than:

200 Jordanian dinars

A uniform fee will generally be charged:

10% of the value of the goods

applicable.

A minimum contribution of 5 IOD applies.

Under this simplified rule, no additional regular customs duties, general sales tax, or service charges are levied.

The following are specifically excluded:

  • Tobacco products
  • E-cigarettes and accessories
  • alcoholic drinks
  • Goods in commercial quantities

Important:

This rule applies to private online purchases and is not a general B2B customs rule.

Commercial shipments must therefore continue to be calculated according to the normal import regulations.

For retailers with many individual orders, our guide to Creating shipping labels for online retailers be helpful.

Jordan has been fully using the revised PEM rules of origin since 2026.

2026 is an important year for companies with goods originating in the EU.

The transition period in the Pan-Euro-Med system ended at the turn of the year.

Since 1 January 2026 The revised Regional Convention will be applied to the relevant preferential arrangements.

This brings modernized rules of origin and new possibilities for regional cumulation.

For Jordan, the following remain particularly relevant:

  • EUR.1
  • Declaration of origin
  • 6.000 euro limit for unauthorized exporters
  • Authorized exporter for higher values

REX is not used for this Jordan regulation.

Companies should therefore review older templates or processes from the years prior to 2026 and update them if necessary.

Which carrier is suitable for Jordan?

Several criteria should be compared when shipping:

  • current term
  • Price
  • Customs service
  • Tracking
  • Insurance
  • Weight limits
  • Package dimensions
  • Target region

DHL Parcel currently states a standard delivery time of 8 to 12 working days.

Transport to Jordan is currently possible again.

However, DHL points out that due to the ongoing dynamic situation in the Middle East, delivery delays may occur.

For time-critical B2B shipments, it should therefore also be checked whether an express service makes sense.
